## Security: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and regional hosting

Put 1up and Responsive through the same three questions a security reviewer will ask: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and whether you can keep the tenancy in the US or the EU. Cells say **Not listed** when we could not find the claim on a public vendor page.

__Confirm certificates and residency on the vendor site or Trust Center before a formal review. Responsive: AWS hosting can be elected in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, or the European Union. Azure and Google Cloud entries on the same list are United States only.__

## Slack and Microsoft Teams

During a live questionnaire, SMEs get pinged in Slack or Teams, not in a vendor portal. Here is what 1up and Responsive publish for those two connections.

## Subprocessors: the big three clouds, then the niche names

Compare 1up and Responsive on AWS, Azure and GCP first. Then scan for niche processors a reviewer should pause on: third-party LLMs, session replay, or support that leaves the region you elected.

__Cloud row lists the big three only. Niche names sit in the notes when the vendor published them.__

**Short answer:** Pick 1up when a sales team wants published monthly prices, a free start, and answers in chat as well as in questionnaires, and the load is a few automated questionnaires a month. Pick Responsive when you want the wider platform (intake, review chains, e-signature, a Trust Center, six AWS hosting regions) and you can work from a $10,000 annual platform fee plus user licenses on a 12-month term. The products overlap on RFPs, DDQs and security questionnaires. They do not overlap on how you buy them or how much system you take on.

[1up](/1up) started in 2022 in New York and states $8.5 million in funding on its site. Customers it names include JumpCloud, WalkMe, Fleetio, Docebo and Deliveroo. [Responsive](/responsive) launched in 2015 as RFPIO in Beaverton, took the Responsive name in 2023, and says it now has nearly 2,000 customers and more than 300,000 users. Named customers in this directory include Microsoft, SAP, Accenture, LinkedIn, Zoom and Vodafone. Treat both customer claims as the vendors’ own.

If you are comparing the two incumbents people usually shortlist together, the [Loopio vs Responsive](/comparisons/loopio-vs-responsive-2026) note is the closer pair. This page is the one for a team that might skip that shortlist and buy a smaller, self-serve layer instead.

## Key takeaways

- **Entry math:** 1up Plus is $900 a month ($10,800 a year if you pay monthly, less if annual billing’s 15% saving applies). Responsive Emerging starts from $10,000 a year as a platform fee before any user license. The stickers can look similar. They buy different things.
- **Users and projects:** 1up Starter and Plus include unlimited users and cap questionnaire automations (1 a month, then 6). Responsive includes unlimited response projects on every edition and prices licenses for admins, contributors and SMEs.
- **AI packaging:** 1up’s drafting is the product. Responsive’s pricing FAQ says AI is built into the platform, with agents for analysis, import and writing, a TRACE Score, and a no-code Agent Studio.
- **Hosting:** Responsive customers can elect AWS in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore or the European Union. 1up does not publish a regional hosting menu in this directory.
- **Reviews:** Responsive is 4.5 out of 5 on G2 from 1,308 reviews, 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra from 190 reviews, and 4.2 out of 5 on Gartner from 56 reviews (July 2026). 1up has no review-site score on file here.
- **Limitations:** 1up’s knowledge base holds 50 files on Starter and 200 on Plus, and PII-like questions are blocked. Responsive reviewers on Capterra describe export formatting work and suggested answers that miss the question.

## How much platform you are actually buying

1up’s pitch is a knowledge layer. You connect sources, it answers, and sellers can ask the same base from Slack, Microsoft Teams or Google Chat. Questionnaire automation and a browser extension sit on top. There is no intake desk, no e-signature step, and no trust portal in the record. For a team whose “process” is a shared Drive folder and a hero in sales engineering, that narrowness is the point. Setup can start on a free plan: one admin, 50 uploads, 50 answers a month.

Responsive is the opposite shape, and that breadth is a real strength. The vendor describes intake, assignment, review and submission in one platform, on a single content backbone for RFPs, RFIs, DDQs and questionnaires. The Growth edition adds intake requests, LookUp and e-signature. A Trust Center shares prefilled questionnaires. Whistic shows up for security reviews and Door for DDQ work, as recorded on its integrations coverage in this directory. If your RevOps team wants every request logged before a writer opens it, 1up does not offer that module. You would be bolting the process on outside the tool.

Both can draft. Responsive’s AI page describes an agent that pulls requirements and a go or no-go summary, an import agent that captures tables, dropdowns and subsections, and a writing agent that drafts from trusted content and prior responses. Ask answers from the library with source citations. A TRACE Score rates generated content for accuracy, relevance and traceability. Agent Studio lets a team build no-code agents from templates. 1up’s record describes RAG-grounded answers in more than 120 languages, linked back to documents, plus spelling and grammar correction. That language figure is 1up’s own description, recorded July 2026, not a lab result.

Read the TRACE Score as a product feature, not as a published error rate. Neither vendor gives you a methodology, a dataset and a verifier on the pages checked for this guide. Run last quarter’s questionnaire through whichever trial you can get.

- Add-ons named on the pricing page: CRM and API integrations, MCP server and connectors, premium onboarding, and packages for security, governance and custom reporting.
- Unlimited response projects on every edition.
- A 12-month minimum term is standard. No standard free trial. A proof of concept is offered only “for qualifying situations.”

A 10-person team on 1up Plus can be modeled from the page. The same team on Responsive cannot, until licenses and the Salesforce line are quoted. A team running 40 questionnaires a year blows through Plus (six a month is 72, which still covers 40, so check the definition of “questionnaire” on the order form). A team running 40 a month does not fit Plus at all and should not pretend the $900 sticker applies.

The other trap is the opposite one. Responsive’s $10,000 is a floor. Licenses for every SME who logs in can move the total more than the platform fee did. 1up’s unlimited users are the concession you should give it: for a chatty sales org, seats are not the tax.

## Security paperwork and where the model runs

Responsive publishes more of this, which matters when InfoSec is in the meeting.

Its DPA commits to SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 or an equivalent. Customers can elect AWS hosting in six places: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, European Union. The pricing page lists flexible hosting from the Growth edition, so confirm the region is in the edition you are buying, not only on the subprocessor list. Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud entries on that list are United States only. OpenAI, using GPT, is named for generative writing assistance, located in the United States. ProWritingAid, DeepL and support processing in India are also on the list. A European privacy review will ask whether answer text leaves the elected AWS region for those vendors. Put the question in the security questionnaire you send Responsive. The irony is not lost on anyone who has filled one out.

1up lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 on its site, and the facts file also records GDPR compliance. This directory does not have a 1up subprocessor table or a customer-elected region. Ask for both before you treat the badges as a hosting design. Certifications and residency are different questions.

1up’s PII rule is the control you can see without a DPA. The help center states that questions containing names, emails, domains or URLs are always blocked as PII and cannot be overridden. A security questionnaire full of vendor domains will throw rows back to a person. That is safer than guessing a URL, and it is extra manual work. Responsive does not publish an equivalent hard block in the sources checked here. Its reviewers describe a different failure: suggestions that do not match the question.

## What reviewers actually wrote

1up does not have a G2, Capterra or Gartner count in this directory, so there is no crowd verdict to quote. The limits you can cite are the vendor’s own: file caps, automation caps, and the PII block.

Responsive’s review record is large. As of July 2026, G2 shows 4.5 out of 5 from 1,308 reviews and Gartner shows 4.2 out of 5 from 56\. Capterra, in this directory’s July 2026 rating stamp, is 4.5 out of 5 from 190 reviews. Inside that record, two dated complaint patterns are on file:

- Reviews dated February 2025 and April 2026 report extra hours of formatting cleanup when exporting a project back to the original file or template ([Capterra](https://www.capterra.com/p/148054/Responsive/reviews/)).
- Reviews dated November 2024 to April 2026 report auto-suggested answers that do not match the question asked, and AI drafts that still need review.

Quote those reviews. Do not inflate them into a verdict the reviewers did not write. A product with 1,308 G2 reviews will have complaints. The useful fact is that export cleanup and off-target suggestions are repeated enough to be in the sourced gap list, so they belong in your demo script.

Responsive’s strength on the same record is the one to concede: enterprise teams use it as the system that runs the whole response, not only the draft. Microsoft, SAP and Accenture appearing on the customer list does not prove it will fit you. It does show the product has been through large security reviews before.

## Known issues and limitations

### 1up

- **Volume and storage ceilings:** one automated questionnaire a month and 50 files on Starter ($300), six questionnaires and 200 files on Plus ($900). Beyond that, Enterprise, per [1up pricing](https://1up.ai/pricing) and the [file-limit FAQ](https://help.1up.ai/en/articles/12997092-faq) (checked October 2026).
- **The useful connectors are not on the cheap plans:** Slack, Teams, Google Chat, the browser extension and SSO start at Starter, per the [pricing page](https://1up.ai/pricing) (checked October 2026).
- **Blocked questions:** names, emails, domains and URLs are always treated as PII and cannot be overridden, per [generating answers](https://help.1up.ai/en/articles/12997274-generating-answers) (checked October 2026).
- **No published hosting menu:** SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 are listed. A customer-elected region is not, in the record used here.

### Responsive

- **The $10,000 figure is a floor:** user licenses and add-ons sit on top, CRM and API integrations and the MCP server are listed as add-ons, and a 12-month minimum is standard, per the [pricing page](https://www.responsive.io/pricing) (checked October 2026).
- **No standard trial:** a proof of concept is only “for qualifying situations,” per the same page (checked October 2026).
- **Export cleanup:** [Capterra reviewers](https://www.capterra.com/p/148054/Responsive/reviews/) dated February 2025 and April 2026 report extra formatting work when exporting to the original file or template (checked October 2026).
- **Suggestions that miss:** Capterra reviewers dated November 2024 to April 2026 report auto-suggested answers that do not match the question, and drafts that still need review (same Capterra page, checked October 2026).

## Choose 1up when

- You can see a path to value on the free plan or on Starter at $300 a month, and you do not want a 12-month platform contract to find out.
- Sellers need the same answers in Slack, Teams or Google Chat that writers use on questionnaires.
- Questionnaire volume fits inside one or six automations a month, and the knowledge base fits inside 50 or 200 files.
- You do not need intake forms, e-signature or a trust center inside this purchase.
- Unlimited users matter, and you would rather cap projects than cap seats.
- A blocked row on any question that names a domain is acceptable, because a person will fill those.

## Choose Responsive when

- The work is a managed response desk: intake, assignment, multi-step review, submission.
- You want AI drafting, a TRACE Score and agent tooling included in the platform, then you will judge quality on your own file.
- Data residency in Canada, the UK, Australia or Singapore is a requirement, not a nice-to-have, and you confirm it is in your edition.
- You need a Trust Center or a Whistic or Door connection as part of the security-review motion.
- Project count is high enough that unlimited projects matter, and you can price every SME license before you compare totals.
- You want a vendor with a four-figure G2 review count and named global customers, and you will read the export complaints before you sign.

## When neither shape is the one you meant

A self-serve chat layer and a full response suite leave a gap in the middle: structured questionnaires where every answer has to be defensible. If that is the row you are scoring, add [AutoRFP.ai](/autorfp-ai) as the AI-native option and as the accuracy and compliance option. Zero hallucination by design: AutoRFP.ai writes only from approved content, cites its sources, and routes anything it cannot support to a person. It is not a substitute for Responsive’s intake-to-signature scope, and it is not 1up’s free plan. The [AutoRFP.ai vs Responsive](/comparisons/autorfp-ai-vs-responsive-2026) page is the place to test that narrower claim. Keep 1up if the job is a sales answer bot with a light questionnaire load. Keep Responsive if the job is the operating system for proposals.

## Verdict

1up is the honest pick when the constraint is time-to-try and a bill you can spreadsheet tonight. The free plan, the $300 and $900 tiers, and unlimited users are genuine. The file cap, the automation cap and the PII block are the contract you are actually signing.

Responsive is the honest pick when the constraint is organizational: many request types, an approval chain, hosting choice, and a content backbone one team owns. The $10,000 platform fee is real and incomplete. Licenses, add-ons and a year-long term decide the cost. Reviewers who praise the coverage also describe cleanup on export and suggestions that miss.

Buy the smaller product if you will outgrow a toy and you know your monthly questionnaire count. Buy the larger one if you already have an admin and a security review that asks for regions. If the deciding test is whether unsupported answers go to a person with the source attached, score the third option on your own RFPs before you let either sticker win.

## Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 1up and Responsive?

1up is a self-serve AI knowledge platform, founded in 2022, that answers RFPs, DDQs and security questionnaires and also answers sales questions in Slack, Teams and Google Chat. Responsive, formerly RFPIO, is an enterprise response platform founded in 2015 that runs intake, assignment, review and submission, with AI included in every edition and a published platform fee from $10,000 a year.

Which is cheaper, 1up or Responsive?

They publish different kinds of numbers. 1up lists a free plan, then $50, $300 and $900 a month, with annual billing saving 15% (October 2026). Responsive lists the Emerging edition from $10,000 as an annual platform fee, then prices user licenses and add-ons on top, with a 12-month minimum term as standard and no free trial.

Which is the better fit for security questionnaires?

1up is built around answering them: a browser extension for web portals (from the Starter plan) and chat answers for sellers. Responsive covers more of the workflow around the answer, including a Trust Center, a Whistic integration and intake requests on the Growth edition. 1up blocks any question that contains a name, email, domain or URL.

Do 1up and Responsive connect to Salesforce and Slack?

Both list Salesforce and Slack. 1up also lists Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, Google Drive, Confluence, SharePoint, Notion, OneDrive, Egnyte and Highspot, with chat plugins and SSO starting at $300 a month. Responsive lists a wider catalog, including HubSpot, Seismic and SharePoint, but names CRM and API integrations among paid add-ons.

Can I trial 1up or Responsive?

1up has a free-forever plan and a free trial on paid plans. Responsive's pricing page says it does not offer a standard free trial. A proof of concept is available only for qualifying situations.

Should I choose 1up or Responsive?

Choose 1up if you want to start this week on a published monthly price and your volume fits a few automated questionnaires a month. Choose Responsive if you need intake, e-signature, regional hosting choices and unlimited projects, and you can staff an admin and a 12-month contract.

Do 1up and Responsive list ISO 27001, SOC 2, and US or EU hosting?

1up: ISO 27001 ISO 27001, SOC 2 SOC 2, US Not listed, EU Not listed, Slack Slack, Teams Microsoft Teams, clouds Not listed. Responsive: ISO 27001 ISO 27001:2022, SOC 2 SOC 2 Type II, US Yes (customer-elected AWS region), EU Yes (customer-elected AWS region), Slack Slack, Teams Microsoft Teams (Responsive Bot), clouds AWS, Azure, GCP. Confirm both on the vendor sites.
