Secureframe is a compliance automation platform that also answers security questionnaires, not a questionnaire tool that happens to do compliance. If you’re buying it to get through SOC 2, ISO 27001 or CMMC anyway, the questionnaire module is a sensible add-on that reuses work you’ve already done. If questionnaires are your only problem, read the pricing table closely before you sign.

## The job it actually does

The core of Secureframe is audit readiness: evidence collection, continuous monitoring, policies, personnel and risk. It lists 300+ integrations to feed that, from AWS and Azure to Okta, Jira and Slack. The questionnaire piece sits on top. When a customer sends you a security review, you upload it, tag the questions and answers, and Secureframe’s “Trust AI” suggests answers from your Knowledge Base and from the policies and controls you keep in Secureframe Comply. You review, assign reviewers where needed, and export in the original format, or as a zip with evidence attached.

That reuse is the honest selling point. The proof an auditor asks for is mostly the proof a questionnaire asks for, and keeping one system of record beats two that drift apart.

## What you get on paper

The help center says Questionnaire Automation takes .csv, .xlsx, .doc, .docx and .pdf files, and a Chrome extension pulls Knowledge Base answers into web portal questionnaires. No specific questionnaire standards are named on the pages I read, so don’t assume a SIG or CAIQ template exists until you see it.

The Knowledge Base is better governed than I expected for a bundled module. You can set an owner on each question and answer pair and schedule content reviews on a set frequency. That’s the boring feature that keeps answers from rotting, and it’s the one I’d check first. For generated answers there’s a See sources view showing what the AI drew from. I didn’t find a confidence score described.

Generation runs through OpenAI, and Secureframe lets you switch the generative and rephrasing features off. Worth deciding before the first customer questionnaire goes in.

On its own security, Secureframe’s trust center lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, CMMC Level 2 and TX-RAMP Level 1, with hosting on AWS and a data location given as “United States / London”. The CMMC credential lines up with the Defense package, which adds an SPRS score tracker, a system security plan and POA&M tooling. Defense contractors should give that real weight.

## Pricing reality

This is one of the few tools in the category with a number on the page. Fundamentals is listed as “Starting at $7,500/year”. Complete and Defense have no price, and every package routes through “Get a quote”. No free plan or trial is listed.

## The catch

The questionnaire automation is metered, and the meter is small at the bottom. Fundamentals includes 100 AI-answered questions a year. Complete raises that to 15,000\. A single long questionnaire can run past 100 questions, so if questionnaires matter to you, you are realistically buying Complete, and that one is quote-only. The help center adds that questions you answer by hand don’t count against a purchased limit.

Complete is also where SSO via SAML or OIDC, SCIM and custom integrations start, so an enterprise identity setup pushes you up a tier on its own.

Expect gaps early. Secureframe’s own help article says the automation leaves a question blank when it can’t find a confident match, so coverage depends on how much verified content and approved policy already sits in your Knowledge Base. I’d rather have a blank than a guess, but plan for a manual first pass.

Reviews are strong overall: Capterra showed 4.8 out of 5 from 58 reviews when I checked. One July 2025 Capterra reviewer said the integrations “can be wonky and sometimes feel superfluous”, which is worth probing in a demo if your stack is unusual.

## How to test it

There’s no self-serve trial, so ask the sales team for a proof of concept with your real policies loaded, then run two questionnaires: a spreadsheet one and a portal one through the Chrome extension. Count how many questions come back blank versus drafted, open See sources on a handful of drafted answers, and check whether the cited policy actually supports the sentence. Then do the arithmetic on your annual question volume against the 100 and 15,000 limits before you talk price.

Who I’d hand it to: a company already pursuing SOC 2, ISO 27001 or CMMC that wants questionnaire answers drawn from the same controls and evidence, especially a defense contractor eyeing the Defense package.

Who I’d steer elsewhere: a team that’s already compliant elsewhere and just needs a dedicated questionnaire responder, or one with heavy questionnaire volume that only wants to pay for the entry package.

### Strengths

- Questionnaire answers draw on the same policies, controls and evidence you keep for audits.
- Knowledge Base governance is concrete: owners per answer and scheduled reviews.
- A published entry price ($7,500 a year for Fundamentals), which most tools in this category do not offer.
- Secureframe itself holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and CMMC Level 2, per its trust center.

### Limitations

- AI questionnaire answers are metered: 100 questions a year on Fundamentals, 15,000 on the quote-only Complete package.
- SSO, SCIM and custom integrations start on Complete, not Fundamentals.
- Automation leaves questions blank when it finds no confident match, so early coverage depends on what is already in your Knowledge Base.

### Where it falls short

Gaps we found in research, each linked to its source.

- AI questionnaire automation is metered by plan: Fundamentals (from $7,500/year) includes 100 AI-answered questions a year, and 15,000 requires the quote-only Complete package. [secureframe.com](https://secureframe.com/pricing), 2026-10
- SAML/OIDC single sign-on, SCIM and custom integrations are not in Fundamentals; they start on the Complete package. [secureframe.com](https://secureframe.com/pricing), 2026-10

## Security: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and regional hosting

A security review of Secureframe usually starts with three questions: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and whether you can keep data in the US or the EU. We only mark a yes when a public vendor page supports it.

## Slack, Teams and the rest of the stack

Secureframe collaboration is only as useful as the chat tools your SMEs already live in. Slack and Microsoft Teams are the two that matter on a live questionnaire.

## Who should pick Secureframe, and who should skip it

**Pick it if** you fit this profile: security and compliance teams, including defense contractors working toward CMMC, that also field customer security questionnaires. Where it earns its place: Questionnaire answers draw on the same policies, controls and evidence you keep for audits.

**Look elsewhere if** this limitation is a deal-breaker: AI questionnaire answers are metered: 100 questions a year on Fundamentals, 15,000 on the quote-only Complete package. Also look around if rfps is central to how you work (1/3 here). In that case, one of the [Secureframe alternatives](/alternatives/secureframe) may fit better.

## Bottom line

Best use case in one line: Companies running SOC 2, ISO 27001 or CMMC compliance in Secureframe that want questionnaire answers from the same data.
