Security: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and regional hosting
Put QorusDocs and VisibleThread through the same three questions a security reviewer will ask: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and whether you can keep the tenancy in the US or the EU. Cells say Not listed when we could not find the claim on a public vendor page.

Subprocessors: the big three clouds, then the niche names
Compare QorusDocs and VisibleThread on AWS, Azure and GCP first. Then scan for niche processors a reviewer should pause on: third-party LLMs, session replay, or support that leaves the region you elected.

QorusDocs (ProposalHub / PitchHub / ValueHub) lists Azure, SendGrid, ChurnZero, Zendesk, and DataDog. The Shark product adds AWS SES, Google Firebase, Auth0, LogRocket, and Cloudflare. | No niche processors flagged in our sourced list. |
Think of QorusDocs as the assembly line and VisibleThread as the inspection bench. QorusDocs helps a professional-services, legal, AEC, or IT services firm build a proposal or pitch from approved content and send it as a polished Word or PowerPoint file. VisibleThread helps a government contractor pull a solicitation apart into requirements, prove the response covers every one, and catch the long sentences, passive voice, and risky wording that a tired reviewer misses at 2am.
You would rarely evaluate them head to head for the same job. You might well own both. The sensible way to use this comparison is to figure out which problem is actually costing you deals, then pick the tool built for that problem.
Key takeaways
- Different jobs: QorusDocs creates proposals, pitches, RFP responses, and (in ValueHub) business cases inside Microsoft 365. VisibleThread shreds RFPs into a traceable requirements matrix, checks compliance and language quality, and now drafts with its Visi assistant, with citations on each answer.
- Different buyers: QorusDocs sells to legal, AEC, IT, and professional services teams. VisibleThread says 11 of the top 15 US federal contractors use it, and its named customers include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Airbus, and Parker Hannifin.
- Deployment is VisibleThread’s trump card: VisibleThread offers its own cloud, AWS GovCloud (US), customer private cloud such as Azure GCC High, and on-premise installs that can run fully air-gapped, including in SCIFs. QorusDocs runs on Azure with content in your Microsoft 365 tenant.
- Pricing: both are Custom. VisibleThread charges an annual per-user subscription, with training and one-off setup costs on top, and offers a free trial. QorusDocs publishes no pricing and has no self-serve trial.
- Limitations: QorusDocs needs Windows 10 or later with desktop Microsoft 365 apps and uses Power BI for reports. VisibleThread has no maintained Q&A answer library, and Capterra reviewers describe dictionary setup as time-consuming.
What each one actually does
QorusDocs, a Bellevue, Washington company that dates to 2012, sells three packages. ProposalHub covers proposals, presentations, and RFP responses; PitchHub serves law-firm BD with pitches and legal experience management; ValueHub, which grew out of the 2025 Shark Finesse acquisition, builds ROI models and business cases. All three include QPilot (its AI assistant on Azure OpenAI), a governed content library, Pursuit workspaces, CRM connections to Salesforce and Dynamics, and engagement analytics that show what a recipient opened. Ricoh, NTT Data, Hitachi, WSP, and the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills appear among its customers in our records. Ratings in July 2026 stood at 4.4/5 on G2 across 168 reviews and 4.7/5 on Capterra across 91.
VisibleThread was founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Its homepage now describes one platform across the RFP lifecycle: opportunity import from SAM.gov, GSA eBuy, and the UK’s Find a Tender; bid/no-bid analysis using past performance; compliance matrices, outlines, and drafting for proposal teams; and contract review with amendment handling and redlining. Its stated approach is “two engines”: deterministic NLP where results must be exact and repeatable, and generative AI where a head start helps, grounded in your content and cited. As of July 2026: 4.3/5 on G2 (15 reviews) and 4.9/5 on Capterra (52).
Six jobs, one verdict each
Rather than a feature grid (the page already shows one), here is who does each job better and why.
1. Shredding a solicitation into requirements. VisibleThread. This is what it was built on. It turns an RFP into a traceable requirements matrix, and its dictionaries let you tune which language counts as a requirement or a risk. QorusDocs’ agents can summarize an RFP and extract requirements, but nobody chooses QorusDocs for compliance traceability.
2. Checking language quality before submission. VisibleThread, clearly. Flagging long sentences, passive voice, and risky phrases across a whole volume is its signature feature, and QorusDocs does not market anything comparable. QorusDocs’ Smart Skills do run compliance and quality checks, but the depth is not the same.
3. Assembling a branded proposal or pitch from approved content. QorusDocs. Templates, bios, case studies, and approved answers surface inside Word and PowerPoint, and the final file is native Office output that needs no reformatting. VisibleThread is not a document-assembly tool.
4. Drafting new narrative. Closer than you might expect. VisibleThread’s Visi assistant drafts sections and RFI or questionnaire answers from curated content collections, asking clarifying questions first and citing a source on each answer. QorusDocs’ QPilot drafts from approved answers and adapts tone. VisibleThread’s citations are a strength; QorusDocs’ templates and brand control are a strength. Test both on your content.
5. Knowing what the client read. QorusDocs. Engagement tracking on sent proposals and pitches is built in. VisibleThread is a pre-submission tool; it does not follow the document out the door.
6. Contract review after award. VisibleThread. Its contract module handles amendments, redlines, and annotated reviews against dictionaries of liability, warranty, termination, and IP terms. QorusDocs stops at the win.
Score: VisibleThread takes three, QorusDocs takes two, and drafting is a draw. That tally says nothing about which you should buy, only that the two products barely compete.
One 90-page RFP, two very different afternoons
To make the difference concrete, imagine both tools receiving the same 90-page solicitation for an IT modernization contract.
In VisibleThread, the proposal manager uploads the package and lets the platform shred it. Out comes a requirements matrix tied to the source paragraphs, ready to assign. As sections come back from writers, she runs them through the language checks: the run-on sentence in the transition plan gets flagged, so does the passive voice in the staffing section, and so does a phrase her legal team has put in a risk dictionary. Before the gold team, she checks coverage against every requirement. Visi can draft a first pass of a missing section from the curated content collection, with a citation on each answer for the reviewer to click.
In QorusDocs, the BD lead opens a Pursuit and starts from a template. Smart Search pulls the right case studies, the delivery lead’s bio, and approved security language into Word. QPilot drafts the executive summary from past wins and adjusts tone for the client. The PowerPoint for the orals presentation is built from the same content. After submission, engagement analytics show the client spent most of its time on pricing and the case studies.
Same RFP, different value. VisibleThread made the response defensible. QorusDocs made it faster to assemble and better looking. A federal bid lives or dies on the first; a commercial pitch often lives or dies on the second.
Where your data lives
For many VisibleThread buyers this is the deciding factor, so it deserves more than a table cell.
VisibleThread’s pricing page lists four deployment types. VisibleThread Cloud is managed for you. US GovCloud is hosted in AWS GovCloud (US) with FIPS, NIST SP 800-171, and FedRAMP Moderate alignment and US-based support staff. Customer-hosted private cloud runs in environments such as Azure GCC High or AWS FedRAMP regions. On-premise installs are, in the vendor’s words, fully isolated with no contact with the internet, and it confirms they can be deployed in SCIFs. For defense contractors working classified or export-controlled bids, few tools in this directory go that far.
QorusDocs runs on Microsoft Azure and keeps content inside the customer’s Microsoft 365 tenant, with SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance and AI calls through Azure OpenAI. That is a solid posture for a law firm or engineering consultancy. It is not an air-gapped option, and the vendor does not claim it is.
Microsoft Office fit
Both work with Word, but in different ways.
QorusDocs is Office-native by design: add-ins for Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, with content managed in SharePoint. Its requirements article asks for Windows 10 or higher and desktop Microsoft 365 apps, and centrally deploying the add-ins is the preferred route.
VisibleThread is a web platform with a Microsoft Word add-in, so Visi can draft and review inside Word, and it integrates with SharePoint for content. The analysis itself runs in the platform. For mixed Mac and Windows teams, that web-first design is more forgiving than QorusDocs’ desktop requirement, though you should confirm Word add-in support for your setup.
Pricing and total cost
QorusDocs (Custom; “Quote-based; no public pricing listed.”). The pricing page says pricing depends on package, team size, and workflows, and that no self-serve trial exists. Reporting also has a Microsoft dependency: anyone authoring QorusDocs reports needs Power BI Pro plus the Power BI Desktop app, and the people reading them need Power BI licences of their own.
VisibleThread (Custom; “Quote-based annual subscription charged per user, with cloud, US GovCloud, private-cloud, and on-premise deployments. Free trial available.”). The pricing FAQ adds two useful details. You are not charged for the volume of content analyzed, so heavy users are not penalized. But the main per-user subscription is not the whole bill: training and one-off setup costs also apply. Tiers are described as Small Team, Mid-Sized, and Enterprise.
The free trial is a genuine advantage for VisibleThread. You can run a real solicitation through it before a contract, which you cannot do with QorusDocs.
Setup and learning curve
Neither is a same-day install, and the effort lands in different places.
VisibleThread’s value depends on tuning: dictionaries of the terms that matter to your reviewers, keyword categories for shredding, and curated content collections for Visi to draft from. Our record notes that setup and terminology take some getting used to, and Capterra reviewers echo that about dictionaries. The free trial is the right place to find out how much tuning your team will need before results feel trustworthy. Support is included in the licence fee, with a ticketing system and an SLA, per the pricing FAQ.
QorusDocs’ effort sits in Microsoft 365 administration and content. The add-ins should be deployed centrally by your Microsoft admin, templates need building, and the content library needs owners and permissions before QPilot has anything good to draw on. The vendor says most teams are producing proposals within weeks. Older reviews say it took some of them longer.
Known issues and watch-outs
QorusDocs
- Desktop Windows required. End users need Windows 10 or later and desktop Microsoft 365 apps, per the help center (checked October 2026).
- Power BI dependency. The same page lists Power BI Pro licences for report builders and Power BI licences for report consumers.
- No published price or trial. Stated in its pricing FAQ.
- Older setup complaints. Capterra reviews from late 2022 through October 2023 mention a long onboarding and slow previews on large files.
VisibleThread
- Extra costs beyond seats. The pricing FAQ (October 2026) says training and one-off setup costs sit alongside the annual per-user subscription.
- Dictionaries take work. Capterra reviewers in December 2017 and May 2024 describe building or navigating dictionaries as time-consuming or not user-friendly.
- Upload friction. Capterra reviews from May 2024 and September 2024 mention friction importing documents, including one who says a document upload stops you working in the workspace while it runs.
- Generated matrices still need a human pass. Capterra reviewers in October 2019 and November 2024 say outlines, matrices, or section alignment need manual refinement.
- No answer library. Our record notes VisibleThread does not maintain a Q&A answer library; Visi drafts from curated document collections instead.
Running both
A defense or aerospace contractor with a professional-services arm could reasonably own both, but that is unusual. A more common pairing is VisibleThread alongside a dedicated proposal-writing tool on the federal side, or QorusDocs alongside a lightweight compliance checklist on the commercial side. If you only have budget for one, choose based on who your evaluator is: a contracting officer scoring against Section M, or a client panel choosing between three firms. If you do run both, keep one content owner across them, because a VisibleThread risk dictionary and a QorusDocs approved-content library will drift apart quickly without someone checking that the language each one enforces still agrees.
For DDQs and high-volume security questionnaires, neither is the right category. QorusDocs positions itself for proposals, pitches, and business cases. VisibleThread’s questionnaire drafting exists but sits on top of a compliance product. Teams whose week is spreadsheet questionnaires should look at response-first platforms such as Loopio, Responsive, or AutoRFP.ai.
Who should pick QorusDocs
- Your firm wins work through pitches and narrative proposals in legal, engineering and construction, IT, or consulting.
- Your firm is standardized on Windows and desktop Microsoft 365.
- You want branded Word and PowerPoint output with no export step.
- You want to see which sections a client actually read.
- Business-case and ROI modeling would strengthen your proposals.
Who should pick VisibleThread
- You respond to US federal or UK public-sector solicitations and must prove compliance requirement by requirement.
- Readability and risky-language checks across long volumes would save your reviewers real time.
- You need GovCloud, private cloud, on-premise, or air-gapped deployment.
- You want contract review after award in the same platform.
- You would like to trial the product on a live bid before buying.
Verdict
These tools solve different problems, so a winner would be meaningless. QorusDocs is the stronger choice for building and sending polished proposals and pitches in Microsoft 365, with analytics on what happens after you hit send. VisibleThread is the stronger choice for proving compliance, tightening language, and keeping sensitive bids inside your own walls, with a free trial that lowers the risk of finding out.
Each concedes something real to the other: QorusDocs has nothing like VisibleThread’s air-gapped deployment or language analysis, and VisibleThread has nothing like QorusDocs’ pitch assembly or engagement tracking.
Pick the bench or the assembly line based on where your bids actually break.
A quick test: pull the debriefs from your last three losses. If the evaluators cited missed requirements, unclear writing, or noncompliance, VisibleThread addresses the cause. If they cited weak differentiation, a generic pitch, or a value story that did not land, QorusDocs is closer to the fix.
