SafeBase review: pricing, features and alternatives (2026)

Quick answer

SafeBase is security questionnaire software for security teams that want buyers to self-serve from a trust center, with AI drafts for the questionnaires that still arrive. SafeBase does not publish a price, so buying is quote-only. Check before buying: Its own FAQ says the AI is tuned for security questions and cannot guarantee results on general RFP questions.

SafeBase is a trust center first and a questionnaire responder second, and since 2025 it is part of Drata. It suits security teams who want buyers to help themselves to documents behind an NDA, with AI drafts for the questionnaires that still show up. If you mostly need a heavy-duty response desk for long questionnaires, this is a supporting act rather than the main event.

The job it actually does

The core idea is deflection. You publish your security posture, reports and policies in a branded trust center, buyers accept a clickwrap NDA, and access approvals can run automatically. Every review that ends there is one your team never has to fill in. That is the job SafeBase built its name on.

The second job is AI Questionnaire Assistance. When a questionnaire does arrive, the assistant drafts answers from the same material: your documents, a Knowledge Base, trust center content, external websites, plus policies and controls synced from Drata if you use it. Approved answers can go back into the Knowledge Base, so the library grows as you work.

A note on ownership, because it changes how you buy. Drata announced the acquisition in February 2025 (SafeBase was founded in 2020), and today safebase.io redirects to drata.com. The product lives on as Drata’s Assurance Platform, and the help center at help.safebase.io is still the best documentation.

What you get on paper

Imports cover CSV, Excel, Word, PDF and TXT files. For portals, a Chrome extension searches your Knowledge Base and can auto-fill answers inside named portals including OneTrust, Whistic, ServiceNow, Coupa and Google Forms. Sheet-style questionnaires export back into their original formatting; text-style files come back as CSV.

Each AI answer shows the source it drew on, including what SafeBase calls “Analyzed Facts” (basic company details it generates so answers like your company name stay consistent). The review loop is straightforward: assign questions with due dates, mark them Ready For Review, then Approved. Each person gets a My Questions view. It is a tidy loop, though not a multi-stage approval chain.

Slack and Microsoft Teams bots handle notifications, access approvals and questionnaire assignments, and the Slack bot can search the Knowledge Base for you. On data handling, SafeBase says Gemini (via Google’s Vertex AI Agent Builder) is the main model, Vellum sits in the workflow, customer data is not used for training, and you can opt out of generative AI.

For certifications, trust.safebase.io now forwards to Drata’s trust center, which lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 among others. Ask whether those reports cover the SafeBase environment specifically.

Pricing reality

There is no standalone SafeBase price list any more. The old plans page redirects to Drata’s, where the Assurance Platform comes in Foundation, Advanced and Enterprise tiers, all quote-only, with no free plan or trial listed. Foundation includes AI questionnaire assistance for 10 questionnaires, with more sold as an add-on. Word, PDF and TXT questionnaire support, Salesforce and HubSpot integrations, and DocuSign or Ironclad NDAs are listed from Advanced.

The honest catch

The documentation is candid, which I appreciate. The FAQ says the assistant “is optimized to answer security-related questions” and cannot guarantee results on general RFP questions. The Chrome extension help page says it will not work on portals that block tools from reading their content, and that AI answers are limited to a single product on multi-product trust centers.

Then there is the 10-questionnaire Foundation allowance. For a team that deflects most reviews, that might be plenty. For a team drowning in portal questionnaires, it is a number to negotiate early.

How to test it

In the demo, ask them to build a trust center from your real SOC 2 report and policies, then run a questionnaire you answered last quarter through the assistant. Read the sources on ten random answers. Try the Chrome extension on the portal your biggest customer uses, since portal behavior varies. Confirm in writing which tier covers Word and PDF questionnaires and your yearly volume.

Who I’d hand it to: a security team that wants a polished trust center to cut inbound reviews, especially one already on Drata or open to it, and that answers the remainder with AI drafts.

Who I’d steer elsewhere: a proposal team answering RFPs and DDQs, or a security team whose volume is mostly long portal questionnaires and who would hit the Foundation allowance in the first quarter.

Overview

SafeBase, now owned by Drata, runs a self-serve trust center with NDA-gated documents and an AI questionnaire assistant that drafts security answers from that same content; it is sold as Drata's Assurance Platform.

Security: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and regional hosting

A security review of SafeBase usually starts with three questions: ISO 27001, SOC 2, and whether you can keep data in the US or the EU. We only mark a yes when a public vendor page supports it.

Subprocessors

For SafeBase, start with the big three clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP), then look at niche processors that touch answer content, call a third-party model, or record sessions.

AWS, Azure, GCP
GCP
  • Google (Gemini via Vertex AI Agent Builder): Main model behind AI questionnaire answers; relevant snippets are passed in context only help.safebase.io
  • Vellum: Third-party AI workflow tool in the questionnaire pipeline Watch-out: A niche AI tooling vendor in the answer path. Confirm it appears on the current subprocessor list and DPA. help.safebase.io

SafeBase says it does not use customer data for training and that customers can opt out of generative AI. The full subprocessor list now sits in the Drata trust center; the hosting cloud for the main database is not named in the AI article.

Who should pick SafeBase, and who should skip it

Pick it if you fit this profile: security and sales teams who would rather publish documents behind an NDA than answer every review by hand. Where it earns its place: Deflection and drafting share one content source, so documents published in the trust center also feed questionnaire answers.

Look elsewhere if this limitation is a deal-breaker: No standalone pricing: plans redirect to Drata, quote-only, with 10 questionnaires on Foundation and more as an add-on. Also look around if rfps is central to how you work (1/3 here). In that case, one of the SafeBase alternatives may fit better.

Bottom line

Best use case in one line: Security teams that want buyers to self-serve from a trust center, with AI drafts for the questionnaires that still arrive.
