Which RFP software works best with Word and Excel?

Short answer

18 response tools document working inside Word or Excel, or writing answers back into the buyer’s original file: Inventive AI, Tenderbolt, AutoRFP.ai, Conveyor, SiftHub, GovEagle and 12 more. If your team lives in Word, favour an add-in; if buyers send locked spreadsheets, favour tools that write answers back into the original file without reformatting it.

Tools that qualify, with the evidence

Rule: A recorded sentence says the product works inside Word, Excel or Microsoft 365, or exports answers back into the original Word or Excel file. Ordered by the related capability scores; ties go to sourced research facts, then overall score. Source dates are when the fact was read.

Why this question matters

Most RFPs still arrive as Word documents and Excel workbooks. The cleanup after export is where many hours go: broken tables, lost dropdowns, reset styles. Working inside the files, or returning them untouched apart from the answers, saves that time.

Which one fits your situation

What to test in a trial

  1. Use a real buyer workbook with merged cells, dropdowns and locked columns.
  2. Return the completed file and diff it against the original for anything but answers.
  3. Try a Word RFP with tracked changes and numbered requirements.

Caveats

  • Reviewers on some profiles report formatting cleanup after export; the profile limitations name them.
  • An add-in that works on Windows may behave differently on Mac or the web version of Office.

How we decided who qualifies

Only RFP, DDQ and questionnaire response tools with a published profile are checked. A tool is named here only when its record shows the rule above, either in a sourced research fact or in the reviewed profile, and we publish an answer only when at least three tools qualify. A tool missing from the table may still do this; it has not been documented in a way we could source. Read the research methodology for how facts are dated and corrected.

More questions on this topic

Why does Word and Excel support matter?

Buyers score what they receive. A response with broken formatting looks careless, and fixing it by hand eats the time automation saved.

Is an Office add-in better than a web app?

For Word-heavy teams, often yes. For spreadsheet questionnaires, a web app that writes back to the original file can be just as good.
